6 Items to Purchase

Major Price Hikes Are Coming
If you’ve been putting off a big purchase—like a new couch or the latest iPhone—now’s the time to act. President Donald Trump is moving forward with a sweeping set of tariffs, set to take effect on August 1, 2025. The impact? Rising prices on everyday goods for American consumers.

Although Trump has framed the move as “Liberation Day” for the U.S., the real cost will fall on U.S. importers, not foreign manufacturers. That means shoppers will ultimately pay more.

Trump Confirms Tariff D*adline
On July 8, Trump doubled down on the d*adline via Truth Social, stating:

“Tariffs will start being paid on August 1, 2025… No extensions will be granted.”

With that date approaching fast, now’s the time to make smart purchases before prices surge. According to Forbes, here are six key items to consider buying now.

1. Smartphones, Laptops, and Other Tech
Thinking of upgrading your phone or replacing that aging laptop? Do it soon. Even though the full impact of tariffs on tech remains uncertain, the market volatility alone could push prices higher.

Forbes advises acting now:

“To avoid any worries, it’s advised you make that big purchase soon.”

This includes basics like printers and computer accessories—anything with imported components could be affected.

2. Furniture
Tariffs could deliver a major blow to the furniture market. About 75% of U.S. furniture is imported, meaning items like bed frames, office desks, and dining tables may soon carry much higher price tags.

Without a surge in domestic production, expect steep increases on your next home goods shopping trip.

3. Shoes, Towels, and Summer Apparel
Clothing and home textiles are also in the crosshairs. Many shoes, bags, and even bath towels come from overseas. Forbes warns that products like men’s shorts, crossbody bags, and bath linens could soon see sharp price hikes.

If you’ve been eyeing summer essentials or updating your wardrobe, don’t delay.

4. Everyday Groceries
Tariffs on agricultural imports could hit every American household. In 2023, the U.S. imported over $45 billion in food from Mexico, including two-thirds of its vegetables and nearly half of its fruit and nuts.

Those costs will likely be passed directly to consumers.

“Food is perhaps the most important item that will see an increase,” Forbes notes.

Higher grocery bills are almost guaranteed.

5. Washing Machines and Refrigerators
Big appliances are already pricey—and they’re about to get worse. Past tariffs have already pushed up prices on washers, fridges, and dishwashers due to steel import taxes. The next wave could make things even more expensive.

If you’re planning a kitchen remodel or replacing a major appliance, buying now could save you hundreds.

6. Prescription Medications
Trump recently announced plans to impose a 200% tariff on imported pharmaceuticals, a move that could take effect within a year. With $212 billion worth of medicine imported in 2024 alone, the stakes are high.

While the policy aims to boost U.S. manufacturing, consumers will likely absorb the price increase—especially at the pharmacy counter.

Bottom Line: Buy Smart, Buy Soon
Whether you’re replacing electronics, refreshing your wardrobe, or stocking the pantry, now is the time to buy. Once Trump’s tariffs take effect, costs are expected to rise across multiple sectors—and quickly.

Keep an eye out for sales as retailers look to move inventory. But one thing’s clear:
Waiting could hit your wallet hard.
