Donald Trump harshly responded to Walmart after the retailer warned that his tariffs would raise in-store prices. Walmart imports products from countries like China, Mexico, and Vietnam, all subject to at least 10% tariffs. Although Trump announced a 90-day truce with China, lowering tariffs from 145% to 30%, he warned that even higher tariffs could come without a new trade deal.
Walmart CEO Doug McMillon said the company would try to keep prices low, but tariffs—even reduced—put pressure on already narrow retail margins.
In response, Trump posted on Truth Social, saying Walmart should stop blaming tariffs for price hikes. He argued that Walmart made billions and should “EAT THE TARIFFS” instead of passing costs to customers.
Meanwhile, billionaire Mark Cuban advised shoppers to stock up on essentials before prices go up, warning that companies might use tariffs as an excuse to raise prices—even on U.S.-made goods.
