Scottish TikTok in uproar as baby is named this Scots word

The unsuspecting mum proudly announced her baby’s name—Jobie—on TikTok, only to have her comment section quickly flooded by Scots warning her that she had, in effect, named her child the slang word for poo.

While many American users praised the name as “cute,” “adorable,” and “lovely,” Scottish commenters were quick to highlight the unfortunate meaning behind the name.

According to the Dictionary of the Scots Language, jobie (or jobby) is defined as “a lump of excrement” and can also be used as a derogatory term for a person.

The reaction from Scottish TikTok was swift and brutal.

One wrote: “Are you actually kidding me on? That’s what we call s***s”.

Another added: “How unfortunate.”

A third chimed in: “In Scotland, that kid ain’t gonna have a fun time.”

One user posted her reaction to the site, this video contains strong language.
