Tragedy Strikes Toronto Airport As Gunfire Erupts, Leaving One Dead
Police had to close portions of Toronto Pearson International Airport after shooting a man to death.

A ‘police-involved gunfire’ on Tuesday morning forced the closure of Terminal 1 departures at the main airport.

After responding to a “man in distress” in an SUV at the terminal shortly before 7am, police have since verified that a man in his 30s was shot and killed.

According to officials, a group of people got into a fight outside the departure terminal, and police were summoned to handle the situation.

Officers opened fire after one of the males involved pulled out a gun after they arrived on the scene.

Two officers shot the unidentified individual. The policemen were unharmed in the encounter, according to officials. The man was taken to a medical facility.

Photos taken at the scene show the body of a man on the ground next to a blacked-out SUV under a yellow cover.

Officers utilized Starbucks coffee cups to appear to indicate evidence around the area, and caution tape is seen all around.

On the concrete are personal items, including what looks to be a children’s booster seat.

According to witnesses interviewed by CTV News, gunfire began to reverberate outside the terminal shortly before seven in the morning.

While getting his bags, traveler Chris Rhind told CP24 that he heard “loud, popping noises” in the distance. A security agent noticed the noise.

Social media posts depict dozens of police cars encircling the airport and automobiles backed up along the onramp leading to the departure area.

Additionally, we saw people exiting their Ubers and walking out of the terminal with their bags.

According to police, passengers can anticipate delays when leaving Terminal 1, and they have been advised to check the status of their flights by contacting their airline.

Since then, the airport has affirmed that flights will proceed as usual and recommended travelers leaving Terminal 1 to report to the arrivals hall because departures is still closed.

In addition to serving other airlines, Terminal 1 serves as Air Canada’s primary hub.
