Singer Speaks Out After Altering Canadian Anthem in Subtle Jab at Trump

The artist who performed the Canadian national anthem before the Four Nations Face-Off has addressed the controversy after modifying a lyric in what appeared to be a swipe at U.S. President Donald Trump.

The inaugural mid-season hockey tournament, featuring Canada, the U.S., Finland, and Sweden, took place amid heightened political tensions.

Canada emerged victorious, defeating the U.S. 3-2 in the final at TD Garden Arena, thanks to an overtime goal by Connor McDavid.

Recently, the U.S. national anthem has been met with boos at sporting events in Canada, including both matches in Montreal. However, at Thursday’s final in Boston, ‘O Canada’ also received a mixed reaction when sung by Chantal Kreviazuk.

Despite the announcer’s plea for respect, loud jeers could be heard as the 50-year-old singer from Winnipeg performed the anthem.
