Dr. Phil McGraw’s popular daytime talk show will conclude after its 21st season in the 2022-2023 season. McGraw initially signed a five-year contract with CBS Media Ventures in 2018, and the syndication company is expected to offer networks the option to air previously recorded episodes during the 2023-24 season.

Reflecting on an Incredible Journey
In a statement, McGraw expressed gratitude for his 25-year run in daytime television. CBS Media Ventures revealed that Dr. Phil will soon disclose information on a “strategic primetime arrangement” designed to expand his impact on television and audiences. The new project is scheduled for launch next year.

Expanding His Reach to a Larger Audience
Dr. Phil is driven by concerns for the American family and is determined to help restore clarity of purpose and core values. He feels compelled to engage with a broader audience, prompting this shift in focus.

Diversifying His Portfolio
In addition to his daytime talk show, McGraw has been working on producing scripted projects and hosting two podcasts, Mystery & Murder: Analysis by Dr. Phil and Phil in the Blanks, according to CBS officials who spoke to Variety.

A Storied Career and Lasting Impact
Dr. Phil’s television career took off in the 1990s when he appeared as a guest expert on The Oprah Winfrey Show. Since then, he has moderated over 4,000 shows, hosted over 20,000 guests, and received more than 5 million viewer letters. Averaging 2 million viewers per episode, Dr. Phil remains the second-most-watched talk show, behind Live with Kelly and Ryan.

Continued Partnership with CBS Media Ventures
CBS Media Ventures President Steve LoCascio expressed his appreciation for Dr. Phil’s long-lasting partnership and the impact he has had on daytime television. While the talk show may be ending, LoCascio is excited to continue collaborating with Dr. Phil and explore future opportunities together.
