Beloved “Carrie” Actor And Mother Of Oscar Nominee Dies. More Below⬇️

Hollywood is mourning the loss of a cherished performer as Priscilla Pointer, a talented actress whose career spanned stage, film, and television, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 28, 2025. She was just a few weeks shy of her 101st birthday.

Pointer’s daughter, actress Amy Irving, confirmed the news with a heartfelt tribute on Instagram. “Priscilla Pointer, May 18th, 1924–April 28th, 2025. Priscilla Pointer, acclaimed stage, television, and film actress, and mother of David, Katie, and Amy Irving, died peacefully in her sleep at the age of 100, hopefully to run off with her 2 adoring husbands and her many dogs. She most definitely will be missed,” Amy wrote.

Priscilla Pointer leaves behind an impressive legacy of performances, including memorable roles like Rebecca Barnes Wentworth on the iconic TV series Dallas, and Mrs. Snell in the 1976 horror classic Carrie. In a unique twist of fate, her real-life daughter Amy Irving played her on-screen daughter, Sue Snell, in the same film, marking a special moment in cinematic history.

Born in New York City in 1924, Pointer’s acting journey began in the 1940s. Her early years in theater eventually led her to cross paths with her first husband, Jules Irving. According to the Los Angeles Times, the couple met in Europe shortly after World War II during an army production of Brother Rat. Upon returning to the United States, they co-founded the Actor’s Workshop in San Francisco, a groundbreaking theater company that contributed to the postwar American stage revival. Their efforts later extended to New York City, where they helped develop programming at the Vivian Beaumont Theater at Lincoln Center.

Pointer and Irving were married from 1947 until his death in 1979. Together, they raised three children and relocated to Santa Monica in the early 1970s. It was there that Pointer’s screen career truly blossomed. She continued acting well into her later years, balancing character roles across television dramas and Hollywood films.

Tributes from fans and fellow performers poured in following the news of her passing. On Instagram, one admirer commented, “Sorry for your loss but what a wonderful long life. So beautiful. Obviously the acorn (which didn’t fall far from) is now the tree.” Another shared, “So sad to hear, but what a great run. My wife and I have been working through Dallas on Amazon Prime and we were just thinking of her the other day. Lots of love to you and your family.”

One fan recalled a favorite line from Carrie, writing: “Awwww. Sorry for your loss, Amy. Rest in peace Priscilla! In the words of Priscilla in Carrie, ‘I’ll drink to that!’”

Pointer’s life reflected her devotion to the craft of acting and her ability to connect with audiences across generations. Though she is gone, the warmth and depth she brought to her roles will continue to inspire viewers and artists alike.
