Dog at the shelter for 1,250 days ‘howls’ with joy when he learns he is adopted
There wasn’t an offer to adopt him after two and a half years.
An adorable dog named Bowie spent the first part of his life at the Gateway Pet Guardian shelter in St. Louis. He was adopted as a puppy, but then he was returned a few months later.
Months passed and the puppy sat there, waiting for someone else to give it a chance. The shelter staff loves the puppy and gives it lots of attention and good treatment. However, they still knew what Bowie really needed was a forever home.
In the end, the shelter sent him home with a foster so he could at least relearn how to live as a pet.
“He is a great dog, very well trained and just needs someone to give him a chance,” Brittany Fleming, location manager for Gateway Pet Guardians, told WKYC News.
A “friend” of the puppy even agreed to fund its adoption fees. However, there is no receiver.
In the end, the shelter decided Bowie needed its own PR campaign.
“We need help from the public to help find a home for this guy,” Fleming told KMOV. “Whoever adopts Bowie will inherit a lot of new friends because he has quite a few fan clubs that support him.”
When Bowie’s story touched the hearts of the shelter’s social media followers, he swam in apps!. The shelter had to sort through 40 offers to adopt Bowie to find him the perfect home.
A few weeks ago, the shelter invited a woman named Briana to meet Bowie in the hopes that they would make a good match. The social worker has no children or pets and her roommate is a dog trainer!
The rescue team told 5 On Your Side: “We think it’s perfectly suited for a sensitive guy like Bowie, who sometimes just needs a little extra time to warm up to strangers.
Bowie arrived at his new home at the end of August
