Hunter is Going Down!

Even though summer may be drawing to an end, September is already heating up again as new information concerning Hunter Biden emerges, this time from David C. Weiss, the Special Counsel in his case. Hunter Biden will be charged by the end of September, according to a court document from Mr. Weiss’ office.

The Speedy Trial Act mandates that “Any information or indictment charging an individual with the commission of an offense shall be filed within thirty days from the date on which such individual was arrested or served with a summons in connection with such charges.” This filing relates to Hunter’s gun case and the Speedy Trial Act.

“According to the Speedy Trial Act, the Government must at the very least receive a grand jury’s return of an indictment by Friday, September 29, 2023. Before that time, the Government plans to request the return of an indictment in this case, according to the special counsel’s office’s court filing.

As backdrop, Hunter could face serious legal repercussions for failing to pay his taxes as well as for falsifying information on a gun purchase form. Hunter admitted on the form that he did not use illegal drugs, despite the fact that he was using crack at the time he purchased the weapon in October 2018.

That is a significant felony because the form’s main goal is to prevent numerous anti-social groups, including hard drug users, from obtaining firearms. In actuality, lying on the handgun purchase paperwork is a crime that carries a maximum ten-year prison sentence.

Despite this, Weiss initially intended to give Hunter what many would describe as a slap on the wrist. The agreement stated that if Hunter fulfilled certain requirements over the course of a 24-month period, he would have been able to avoid prosecution. But when the judge in charge of the case threw out the plea agreement, everything went horribly wrong, and the parties were forced to start over.

After the soft-on-Hunter plea agreement fell through, the situation deteriorated to the point where Attorney General Merrick Garland named Weiss the Special Counsel for the case, which many interpreted to suggest that the Department of Justice was pursuing yet another whitewashed resolution. But it now seems as though Hunter will at least be charged.

In a statement about the matter, Hunter Biden’s attorney Abbe Lowell stated that the prior agreement “prevents any additional charges from being filed against Mr. Biden, who has been abiding by the conditions of release under that agreement for the last several weeks, including regular visits by the probation office.” We expect a fair conclusion to the extensive, five-year investigation of Mr. Biden, which Lowell continued, “based on the evidence and the law, not outside political pressure.”

It is uncertain if Hunter will be charged with a crime related to the two tax matters or if the prosecution will concentrate just on the gun registration issue.
