So, my little daughter and I had been driving for hours to visit my mom. We were exhausted and just about to stop at the nearest gas station when suddenly, my daughter yells, “STOP, STOP!”
Shocked, I slam the brakes and ask her what’s wrong. Layla points back frantically, “THERE!”
I glance out the window and see a man in filthy clothes holding a “help” sign, limping towards us. My heart starts racing. He looks utterly worn out, his clothes are torn and grimy. Fear takes over, and I instinctively restart the engine.
“Mom! What are you doing? He needs help!” Layla protests.
“Someone else will help him…” I reply, my voice trembling.
But Layla, with her big heart and stubborn streak, insists we pick him up on our way back from the gas station.
