Pretty Traumatized”: Texas Twins Survived What No 14-Year-Old Should

As floodwaters tore through Texas Hill Country, 14-year-old twins Clara and Nolan Shelton became unexpected heroes. Separated at different summer camps, each faced terrifying scenes of devastation.

Clara was at Camp Mystic. With medical staff overwhelmed, she rushed to the infirmary to care for injured campers. Nolan, at a nearby boys’ camp, helped carry younger children to higher ground—while alligator gar swam into the flooded cabins.

Helicopters dropped food as the dining halls vanished in the rising waters. One 8-year-old girl floated to safety on a mattress, later reuniting with her cousin… in Nolan’s cabin. Both children made it home safely by 2 a.m.—but the trauma will take much longer to leave.

“They are resting, but pretty traumatized,” their mother said. “Please continue to pray for all the missing children and their families.”
