Maurice Williams, the lead singer of Maurice Williams and the Zodiacs, has passed away at the age of 86. He was best known for his hit song “Stay,” which became famous through its inclusion in the 1987 movie “Dirty Dancing.” The cause of his death has not been disclosed. Williams, originally from Lancaster, South Carolina, formed his first band in his teens and later found success with “Stay,” which became the shortest No. 1 song on the Billboard singles chart in 1960. He is survived by his wife, Emily, and left behind a legacy in the world of rhythm and blues.
