A 29-year-old farmer, Michael Biadasz, and 16 of his cattle died in a tragic accident on his family farm in Amherst, Wisconsin. Reports say he was overcome by toxic gases—likely methane or sulfur-related fumes—released from a manure holding tank. Initially, 13 cattle died, with three more later succumbing.
According to his father, the incident was caused by a rare “perfect storm” of weather conditions. Warm air trapped the gases in a dome above the tank, preventing them from dispersing and creating a deadly environment. Biadasz, who had safely worked with the tank many times before, was found dead when others arrived to begin routine work.
Officials say such gas-related deaths usually happen in enclosed spaces, making this case unusual. The family honored Michael with a line of tractors and vehicles along the road, while the tragedy has sparked calls for stricter safety measures and better ventilation systems to prevent similar incidents in the future.
