Trump’s savage response after Mark Carney says ‘Canada is not for sale’

During a visit to the White House on May 6, Canada’s new Prime Minister Mark Carney met with U.S. President Donald Trump, and the topic of Canada becoming the 51st U.S. state quickly resurfaced. Trump, who has repeatedly suggested this idea, even called it a “wonderful marriage” between the two countries.

Carney, however, made it clear that Canada is not for sale, echoing the firm stance of Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. He compared Canada to historic landmarks that are off-limits, saying, “We are masters in our own home.”

Trump responded with his signature defiance, saying, “Never say never,” and referencing past situations he turned around. Despite the playful back-and-forth, Carney remained steadfast in keeping Canada independent.

Body language expert Beth Dawson noted that Carney appeared assertive but slightly apprehensive during the conversation.

Ultimately, it seems Carney’s position remains unchanged: Canada will stay north of the border and proudly independent.
