Flight Instructor’s Final Words Captured Moments Before Tragic Crash

What started as a routine flying lesson turned into a heartbreaking tragedy when 23-year-old Viktoria Ljungman, a flight instructor with a bright future, lost her life in a takeoff accident near Williamsburg, Virginia.

Viktoria, originally from Sweden, was flying with two 18-year-old student pilots in a small Cessna 172. Just seconds after takeoff, one of the students, Oluwagbohunmi Ayomide Oyebode, pulled the plane up at too steep an angle—a common error among inexperienced pilots. The aircraft stalled at just 100 feet in the air and plummeted into a wooded area near the airport.

Tragically, Viktoria was killed instantly. Her final moments were captured in a now-haunting audio recording:
“Cleared for takeoff, 97883. Caution wake turbulence.”
Moments later, another voice broke through the radio:
“We got a crash!”

The two student pilots were rushed to the hospital with serious injuries, while emergency responders scrambled to the crash site. Aviation experts later confirmed that although stalls can sometimes be corrected, there was simply not enough altitude for recovery.

Viktoria’s death has left a deep void. Her family remembered her as bright, warm, and determined—a young woman who worked hard to follow her dreams. She came to the U.S. on a full scholarship to Hampton University, where she thrived both in academics and athletics. She had her heart set on flying, and she made that dream come true.

The aviation community, her friends, and former classmates continue to honor her memory—not just as a skilled pilot, but as someone who inspired others to reach for the skies.
