Warning signs you should never ignore on your skin

Psoriasis: More Than a Skin Condition

Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune disorder that speeds up skin cell turnover, leading to red, scaly, itchy patches. It affects over 125 million people worldwide. Though its cause isn’t fully known, genetics and environmental triggers play a big role.

There are five main types of psoriasis:

Plaque Psoriasis – The most common type, with raised, itchy, scaly patches often on the elbows, knees, scalp, or lower back.
Guttate Psoriasis – Seen in kids and young adults, usually after a strep infection. Appears as small, teardrop-shaped spots on the trunk and limbs.
Inverse Psoriasis – Found in skin folds like the groin or under the breasts. It’s smooth, red, and worsens with sweat and friction.
Pustular Psoriasis – Less common but more severe, with white pus-filled blisters on red skin. May come with fever or chills.
Erythrodermic Psoriasis – The rarest and most serious type. It causes widespread redness, peeling, and can be life-threatening.
Psoriasis can also affect the nails, causing pitting, discoloration, or detachment, and may be an early sign of psoriatic arthritis.

If you notice any symptoms, see a dermatologist. Early diagnosis helps manage the condition better.
