When this wildlife biologist saw a tranquilized black bear drowning in the Gulf of Mexico, he didn’t think twice.
Dr. James Hawkins plunged into the dangerous waters to save “Lucky” – a massive Louisiana black bear that accidentally fell into the ocean during what should have been a routine relocation.
Picture this: A 350-pound sedated beast sinking beneath the waves, with nothing but precious seconds to make a life-or-death decision.
But here’s the incredible part… Dr. Hawkins not only jumped in, but managed to keep the bear’s massive head above water until his team could help guide the animal to shore!
This wasn’t just any bear either. The Louisiana black bear has fought back from the brink of extinction, with their population growing from nearly zero to about 1,200 today.
Sometimes the greatest acts of courage happen when no one’s looking, by people who simply believe every life is worth saving – even when that life has claws and weighs more than your entire family combined.
What would YOU risk your life to save?
