Two Virginia Beach police officers were killed in a late-night traffic stop shooting—here are the latest updates.

Two Virginia police officers were fatally shot during a traffic stop on Friday night, authorities confirmed. The suspect responsible for the attack is also deceased.

Officers Cameron Girvin and Christopher Reese of the Virginia Beach Police Department succumbed to their injuries at local hospitals early Saturday after a confrontation in which a driver pulled a gun on them outside the vehicle, Police Chief Paul Neudigate stated during a Saturday press conference.

Neudigate described the fallen officers as “two heroes who went to work last night and didn’t make it home. Two heroes who paid the ultimate price for our society.”

Girvin, who joined the department in 2020, and Reese, who previously served with the Virginia Beach Sheriff’s Office before joining in 2022, were 25 and 30 years old, respectively, according to WTKR, a local CBS affiliate.
