I COULDN’T REACH MY HUSBAND FOR DAYS — THEN MY MOTHER-IN-LAW CALLED ME AND SAID, “PROMISE ME NOT TO TELL MATTHEW WHAT I WILL SAY.”

My husband, Matthew, disappeared. After 15 years of marriage, he only left a small note on the table, “Don’t search for me.” Honestly, at first, I thought it was just a joke. I tried to call him, but his phone was dead. I called his parents and friends asking if they knew his whereabouts, but none of them knew anything.

When he didn’t return home for two days, I went to the police, but they told me that they wouldn’t look for him because of the note he left. I was very worried and confused. I didn’t know how to explain to our four young kids that their father had just left us. Also, I missed him dearly.

On the 10th day of his disappearance, my mother-in-law called me. “IF YOU WANT TO KNOW THE TRUTH, PROMISE ME YOU WON’T TELL MATTHEW WHAT I WILL SAY,” she said right after I picked up her FaceTime call.

“Okay,” I replied in shock and impatience. Her words ripped the ground out from beneath me. ⬇️
