A stranger paid for our groceries today—all $178.86 worth of baby food, deli meat, milk, and veggies. Paid forward, right there at check stand 11. It’s the most incredible act of generosity I’ve ever experienced.
After a tough day of PMS-ing and navigating the chaos of motherhood (with boys who love me but just don’t get it sometimes), I decided to take a “break” and run to the market with my youngest—the one who doesn’t talk back (yet). Armed with teething crackers to keep him happy, I made my way through the store and finally loaded up the belt with everything we needed.
But as I handed the cashier our reusable bags, I suddenly froze, fumbling through my wallet-less diaper bag. Panic set in. Holding my forehead with one hand, I frantically called my husband with the other, pleading for a miracle.
That’s when I heard her.
“Keep ringing everything up. I’ll take care of it,” she said.
I turned around, absolutely stunned. Seeing the subtotal already at $70, I shook my head and tried to insist it was just too much. But she smiled and firmly said, “Seriously, don’t worry about it. I need to do something for the holidays. Merry Christmas. Enjoy.”
Her insistence was stronger than mine, and tears welled up in my eyes. Joyful, humbled, grateful tears. This is the kind of story you read about—the kind that makes you smile from afar. But when it becomes YOUR reality, it’s life-changing.
You changed my life today, ma’am. This moment will live forever in my heart, and every Thanksgiving, I will bring YOUR love to my table.
From the peaks to the depths of my heart, thank you. Thank you. 💖
